The Deathly Hallows

Well, hello once again. It's been awhile since I posted something new on the blog. As you might not know, I'm pretty busy with the new semester that commences 2 weeks ago. A lot of things to catch up, meet-ups, dinners, movies and study will always be the last thing on my mind. Sighz...

Anyway, in my previous post stating I have just bought the new and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I have finished reading it few days ago and would like to give my first ever (and most probably will be the last as I don't read other fiction books) book review.

FLASHBACK. I still remember when I was 12 and bought the very first book of HP series. I could really relate and imagine how Harry's life would be as if he is just standing in front of me. From the very first chapter "The Boy Who Lived" really captivates me into continue reading the storybook until today.

ATTN. This will most probably include a tiny bit of spoiler, however, I'm sure most fanatic of HP's series would have read it at least twice already.

Harry Potter in Simpson suit

Before the release of the book, there are already spoilers about the book as some people got the book few days earlier (and thanks to their generosity for sharing the information to the world).

As always, the 6th book leaves us with a cliffhanger where Harry is going to hunt for the Horcrux and obviously there are questions arises:-

  1. Dumbledore and Sirius are dead. Who will be there to guide Harry and rescue him when he's in trouble?
  2. Will Ron and Hermione survive? How about the Weasley's family members?
  3. As the prophecy says, is it the only way to kill Voldermort when Harry's dead?
  4. How will Harry managed to get the hand on the remaining Horcuxes (Even the long time protege, Dumbledore found it so hard just to find the locket in a secluded cave. So, what can a 17 year old boy do?)
  5. The information provided by Rowling herself saying at least two main characters will die. Who are they?
  6. Who side's is Snape on (although it is kind of obvious, isn't it?)?
The questions can go on and on. After finishing the book, I really have only 2 words to describe the ending of a wonderful wizard boy - Well Done!! Rowling starts the book mercilessly by killing people just like that. Few pages you turn, and there would be a character got killed. Finally, the wizarding world is divided into two main sides - Harry's side or Voldermort's side whereas a significant wizards/witches who are afraid will hide until the war is over. Throughout the whole book, everyone is on RED ALERT and afraid that D-day would come sooner than later. Emotions of sadness and tragedy tends to overcome small joys such as weddings and giving birth.

There's one thing I don't really like is that Rowling still likes to waste time by writing events that are unrelated or insignicant to the main plot although luckily, she managed to get rid of Quidditch matches, romances between one another and teenage rage. Another thing she did correctly is that the book reaches chaotic climax before I can even blink. The loose ends were tight pretty well and the ending is quite a fitting finale (however, I REALLY hoped that Rowling would give us reader a shock by giving a suprise ending).

While I was reading, it really reminded me of the LOTR trilogy where Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and Golum journey. The events were practically the same although both the groups were hunting different items where Harry and the gang are looking to destroy Horcrux meanwhile Frodo's gang are looking to destroy the Ring. There are still plenty of similarities event that are parallel with Tolkien's.

The loose ends were tight pretty well and most of the unanswered question were answered. By answering those questions, there are new questions arises such as:-

  1. Who is the weird creature in Harry's dream? Is it a devil himself? Is it Voldermort? What is the importance of it in Harry's dream?
  2. What really happens between the 19years where the epilogue begins?
However, the ending is quite a fitting finale (however, I REALLY hoped that Rowling would give us reader a shock by giving a surprise ending).

So, finally this book marks the end of the journey that we begun with Harry 7 years ago. The journey has ups and downs where we laughed and cried together. However, all good things will come to an end. As I close the book, I really feel heavy hearted to leave the magical wizarding world of Harry James Potter that has grown with me.

Au Reviour, the BOY WHO LIVED and will always be in my heart.
